This is my first post using Disqus, I think. Actually I'm not very choosy when it comes to commenting formats. I have nothing to say, but I wanted to "give it a go."

I am not sure if guys from Disqus are following this thread. It looks like once you have published a post, in order for the system to track the comments properly, you should not change the "post slug"(WP) or posts permalik. I misspelled a word in a URL today got three comments on the posts, but then noticed the misspelling. After correcting the misspelling, Disqus showed that there were 0 comments. I wish there was a way to adjust the permalink from inside of your account on Disqus... Unless there is, but I do not know about it.

Disqus does look like a nice solution. Your comments look really clean, and there's some nice functionality built in. Pretty impressive for out of the box implementation.

When I considered the implications of just 0.1% of all bloggers importing all their comments into Disqus, we would probably be looking at a paid service :-)

I'm not on WordPress so don't have the various configuration options available to me (my blog is on Habari) but it's no good. I can't resist the lure of Disqus any longer.

All existing comments will be gone (from the public eye at least but still in the database) and my blog will be Disqus enabled tonight.

Andy, at first I felt the same way about the importing, but I've decided that I'm ok with leaving my old comments in place and using disqus going forward. I do get a lot of spam on those old posts though, which may lead me to do a full import if they do ever build that feature.

I do have some posts with hundreds and even 1000+ comments, so I'd be worried about any import script being able to handle that.

I've been urged to try Disqus, and therefore performed a FriendFeed search (Andy C's comment appeared on his stream, which led me to your post). I appreciate the fact that you evaluated the other services also (to be honest, I hadn't heard of the other two).

A bonus for Disqus is that they’ve been integrated into FriendFeed recently (last week), so your comments can appear in your “lifestream”.

Not so much a bonus as the absolute, mind numbing killer app moment. Well for me at least.

Now if they could nail import of existing blog comments, my life would be complete.

There are getting to be so many comment systems it is hard to decide which one would be the most useful. It needs to be easy to use, encourage comments, yet keep the ads for things like little blue pills at bay. I like the looks of this Disqus, and I will be interested to see how you like it after using it awhile.

Thanks for the critiques - these are services I've been looking into for a while and this is a good overview of them. I'll keep an eye on your site to see if you run with Disqus and then give it a whirl too.

Maybe there will be longer term effects, James. But for now spamming is so cheap, they don't care if they're spamming blogs with dofollow or not.

Nofollow does, however, mitigate the damage, so if some gets through they're not getting any benefits from you.

Best way to tackle spam is to do nofollow... it sucks, but its the only way.

That is trange, mine looked much better with the stable version. Beta looks
all messed up. I thought it may took some time to repopulate my new set up.
I think my theme's CSS are messing up the look of Disqus comments. Any idea
how to fix it?

I am going to try the plugin on Go Beyond MLS, it should tell me if my theme
is messing it. I thought that maybe things got messed up because I had the
stable version installed first. But I deleted it completely before
installing the beta plugin.

Thanks for trying out SezWho and for a good analysis. We are working on a template for threaded comments where the comments...This skin would provide a standard look for comments with threading but would keep the comments within your system and thereby avoid all SEO issues.
