Jangro.com: Do Something That Makes You Uncomfortable

  • Shawn Collins · 10 months ago
    Nice work, suedehead.

I mentioned to my wife that maybe I'd pledge to get shaved bald if we ended up raising x amount for charity via Affiliate Summit and she shot daggers at me.

I might just have to do it, since I like hair stunts.
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
I'd pay cash money to see you bald!
  • Shawn Collins · 10 months ago
I'll have to revisit this right before Affiliate Summit - I'd be into it for charity.
  • Andy C · 10 months ago
I did a similar thing without telling anyone. I was nervous and the worst bit was the barber repreatedly asking 'Are you sure ? No. 3 all over. Are you sure ?'

My wife was horrified, my kids laughed for days. Literally.

I completely forgot about it until I shaved or brushed my teeth.

PS. I wouldn't call your head 'shaved' - just cut short. Next time ask for a No. 1 :-)
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
    LOL.

My 11 yo daughter freaked out, but likes it. My 2.5 yo son didn't even notice.

And you're right, I shouldn't have used the word "shaved". It's shaved to me though.
  • Pat Grady · 10 months ago
Dude, hair thing is fun, but I gotta say I am noticing your video editing skills have improved a ton, the captions content and timing and other details are right on. I wasn't just informed, I was entertained. Glad that you're not resting on your best blogger award laurels.

rock on with your bad swirly-proof self.

ps - now that rubbing your head feels tingle-y... some fuzzy head tricks will come along natrually... soon. video some of those for us bud.
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
Thanks Pat, that means a lot. I am having fun with the video.
  • Geno Prussakov · 10 months ago
"My 2.5 yo son didn't even notice." - LOL

    Looking good!

Honestly, when I just started watching that video, I too thought you're gonna shave bald. What you got looks much better than what I thought I was gonna see... :)

    Great haircut! Excellent video!
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
yeah, again, sorry about use of the "shave" term. Maybe someday! Me and Collins for charity.

uh, maybe not. I'm afraid of what my head looks like under there. :)
  • Jim Kukral · 10 months ago
I really like the message Scott. Forget the hair, you've got a great story there and motivational message. I'll have to feature this to my coaching clients.
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
Thanks Jim. I knew you would.
  • lissriolo · 10 months ago
First of all - Happy Birthday.

Glad you celebrated be excercising your ability to choose, to create change and all that

Side note: Your new nicname is Buzz in my contacts list
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
    Thanks!

    "buzz jangro" that works.
  • andrew wee · 10 months ago
    "Buzz Jangro" I like it.
Will you do another before ASW so we can take pics with you in all our glory?

Gratz on breaking yr comfort zone

Maybe a real shave this time?
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
    real shave? you first!
  • andrew wee · 10 months ago
Years ago, I went to my barber and because my hair is thick, i asked for it short.
    He said "Crewcut?"
Not knowing better, I said "Ok!".
Next thing I know, almost all my hair is on the floor.

If we can raise funds for the next ASW charity, maybe a group of us can get shorn for the books?
  • Joe Magennis · 10 months ago
Scott .. nice job using a personal story to make a great point. Isn't it funny how a haircut can invoke the same level of anxiety as a major job change!?! Well done.

BTW .. when I was growing up in New England we actually would wait until the Summer to get the buzz cuts .. you know? Cold air, head .. brrrr
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
Thanks Joe. yeah, as a foot of snow dumps on us...

If it wasn't clear from how this "went down", this was not a thoroughly planned activity... and that's what they make hats for.

Great post, great senitment, ok haircut :) Some people are too comfortable with the status quo and don't want to do anything to rock the boat. But instead they should and they could find that a. it's not so bad and b. the status quo was boring :)
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
just ok? LOL. you girls are funny with the hair!
  • Brad_Waller · 10 months ago
You call that shaved? That's just trim. Let's see a real shave next time.
  • andrew wee · 10 months ago
    From the hair master:
    When brad talks, everyone listens!
  • Todd Crawford · 10 months ago
ahhh, that isn't that short - next time cut it shorter
  • Joe Sousa · 10 months ago
I remember when I had long hair back in the early 90's and I decided to cut it. My hair was pretty much down to the middle of my neck all the way around and it was one of the things people knew me by but I started playing basketball in a league and it kept flopping in my face so my two choices were a ponytail (NEVER GONNA HAPPEN) or shave it off so I went for the shave. I have kept it short ever since but I have always wished I would have kept it.

I would grow it out again but it took about 2 or 3 years for me to get it that long and I hate the way it looks between short and long so I have never grown it out again.

But the cut looks good on you. And if you want to you can just buy a pair of clippers and cut your own hair now.
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
I could cut it myself, but then I'd never leave the house! Plus, the barber shaves my neck with a straightedge and hot shaving cream!
  • Shawn Collins · 10 months ago
Exactly - the the excellence of that finale to a barber shop haircut cannot be expressed in words.
  • Joe Sousa · 10 months ago
Yeah, I gotta give it up for the neck shave. Kinda forgot about that glorious finish to the barber experience. Talk about a happy ending...
  • Bob Land · 10 months ago
I always admired you, Scott, for leaving your day job. The day you left was like watching David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine walking off into the sunset as he did at the end of each episode. Remember?

For what it's worth, I wish I had half your guts - and talent.

    Happy Birthday old-timer.

    ...and remember:

  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
Wow Bob, thanks so much. And Caine is one of my biggest heroes growing up. Great quote.
  • MikeAllen · 10 months ago
Nice way to weave a personal story/video into an excellent point. I remember the first time I buzzed my hair and I remember quitting my day job in 2003 to do affiliate marketing full time. Both were apprehensive. Now I'm considering other challenges like running for local office. That is a difficult decision.

Fear is good for making us think; however, it can also be paralyzing and that's not good. After we have spent sufficient time and effort into making our decision, it is time to dive in. Thank you for that reminder.

    Good post and good lesson.
  • Kunal · 10 months ago
I agree with Mike on this one, Scott - really motivational post. I've been thinking of blogging for a while but just a little uncomfortable as I'm never sure if people will like what I have to say. This is truly inspiring and I'm going to try my hand at it for sure. On the hair cut note - it looks great and I was honestly thinking of doing some sort of a bet with you after the NHL post - if the Bruins were to win to shave my head. You already beat me to it :)

We will have to come up with another creative challenge now!
  • Jonathan (Trust) · 10 months ago
Nice, have had that style for years now. I do it myself, just go at it with some clippers. You have to step up with the next haircut. Get a mohawk. Then you can use the sides of your head for advertising space.
  • Jonathan (Trust) · 10 months ago
Oh and the advertising on the side of your head can go for charity. Do it for the kids :)
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
Brad Waller is the ONLY person I know who can rightly give me grief about length of my hair.
  • Garrett · 10 months ago
Welcome to the club Scott....at least your hair will grow back, though.
  • Alex · 10 months ago
Great post. You never know what's ahead before diving in and trying something totally new.
  • TrishaLyn · 10 months ago
it's too bad your hair isn't longer and you guys can't shave it and donate it to Locks of Love.

And great sentiment... I'm gearing up for a new podcast and doing more video as we speak, so thanks for the extra kick that it was a good decision :)
  • jgoode · 10 months ago
great job and thanks for sharing the internal terror with us all... now that we know you came out ok of your scary place... maybe we can too -- first we need to find those thoughts we have so craftily stashed away in the "forget me please" pile... so that we can act on them. give me a few months to act on this one.

way to go - you look fabulous - and just think, a more "oh i gotta rub his head" kinda do for many ;)
  • Scott Jangro · 10 months ago
My daughter's hello and goodbye rituals now involve a two-handed head rub. :)
  • jane · 10 months ago
awesome post! thank you very much :-)
  • Juliette · 10 months ago
Why would I wanna do something that makes me feel unconfortable? :)
  • salcom · 10 months ago
Great post. I wanna test it
  • altroconsumo · 10 months ago
Lol, I thought I was the only one in the world freakingly scared by barbers...usually I cut my hair as short as I can, and then I procrastinate the next haircut until the hair become a bush... :D
  • Fine-Minds.com · 10 months ago
Very nice post!! I have added your blog to my RSS feed
  • disneyland guide · 10 months ago
this reminds me of the first time i got my head shaved - about 10 years ago. the barber had screwed up on my haircut and i decided to just get a buzz cut. i thought i looked hideous and didnt want to leave the house at first but eventually i got used to the look and sported the same cut for the next 5 years.
  • laptops · 10 months ago
It feels good doesn't it? The reason I say is that I have only recently got over my fear of speaking in public, and i'm chuffed!
  • Ernie Small · 10 months ago
funny little vid. i hadn't heard about the monster.com thing.
  • MacTops · 10 months ago
